Chennai-based Bharatanatyam dancer Bala Devi Chandrashekar, a recipient of the Kalaimamani Award, speaks with press about her upcoming performance there on December 25, the choreography of the piece, and much more.
Question 1. You have a lengthy history of performing, and you have received several honours and prizes for it. Which item is your personal favourite?
Answer: One, which was a voyage I greatly loved. My issue is making sure that each of these shows is seamless for the audience, whether it be in a small town outside Budapest, Chile, Mathura, or Chidambaram. I have had to seek out professionals and professors who can point me in the proper way. My favourite among my nine productions is all of them. I count myself among the lucky few Bharatanatyam dancers who have performed at UNESCO.As part of the World Heritage Week celebrations, I performed Brihadeeswara, one of my dance performances, at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris in June 2019. Over 500 art lovers, including dignitaries and diplomats, attended the exhibition.
