Hamburg Airport | Air traffic in Hamburg temporarily suspended after threat of attack
Hamburg Airport
Air traffic will resume in Hamburg, but further delays are to be expected. Unknown people had threatened an attack on an Iran Air plane.
After a threat of attack against an Iranian aircraft, Hamburg airport was temporarily closed to take-offs and landings.
As a spokesman for the Federal Police said, the threat received by the Federal Police via email was directed against an Iran Air plane with the flight number IR 723, which was traveling from the Iranian capital Tehran to Hamburg. The plane landed in Hamburg at around 12.30 p.m. The 198 passengers and 16 crew members were then checked.
No take-offs and landings possible for a short time
According to the airport operator, “take-offs and landings were not possible for a short time” due to police intervention before flight operations resumed at around 2 p.m. However, flight delays are still possible. Travelers should therefore keep an eye on their flight status, it said.
The threat was classified as “serious,” said the federal police spokesman.
After landing, the aircraft was parked in a safety position. Everyone on board was directed through a separate gate and had to go through a security check. The plane itself and all luggage on board were also searched.
