The economist Philippe Martin, dean of the Sciences Po School of Public Affairs, has died at the age of 57, the Paris Institute of Political Studies (IEP) announced on Sunday evening, December 17 in a statement.

he was an eminent figure in our institution, from which he was a graduate and to which he devoted part of his career,” praised Sciences Po sur “international economy and economic geography”, according to the press release from the IEP of Paris.
Advisor to Emmanuel Macron from 2015 to 2016 when he was Minister of the Economy, he was president of the Economic Analysis Council (CAE), an expert body attached to Matignon, from 2018 to 2022.
He is one of the most brilliant French economists of his generation who died prematurely. On Sunday, Sciences Po announced the death of Philippe Martin, at age 57.
Dean of the Sciences Po School of Public Affairs and former president of the Economic Analysis Council (CAE), Philippe Martin knew how to combine an academic career and leading political missions.
He was notably an economic advisor to Emmanuel Macron when he was Minister of the Economy and he then contributed to the preparation of his economic program for the 2017 campaign.

Thomas Cazenave, praised on the social network “a talented economist” and the Minister of Transport, Clément Beaune, expressed his “deep professional and friendly sadness at losing Philippe Martin”.
Former socialist minister Pierre Moscovici spoke of “his finesse, his demands, his commitment”, regretting that he “left young, much too young”.
